Tips for winning at Bubble Witch 2 Saga without buying IAPs
Bubble Witch 2 Saga is a great way to kill some time, and like King’s other famous puzzler, it will demand players sacrifice a lot of time to make any headway in the game–that is unless you’re willing to spend some real-world money to buy their IAP boosts that effectively help you skip certain difficult parts of the game. However, if you’re a frugal player, you might do well to heed these few gameplay tips that can help push you forward onto the next stage without spending a dime.
Pop The Supports
If you’ve played Bust-a-Move by Taito or any of its numerous clones over the years, you’ll probably already have this internalized in your “gamer logic” mind-bank. If there’s no other tip you internalize from this article, that’s fine; just remember to aim at the highest row you can destroy. In Bubble Witch and other similar games, taking out a row of bubbles will also drop any bubbles they’re connected to. You only have a limited number of shots, so popping bubbles that are going to drop anyway seems like a waste. As much as possible, aim high and pay attention to the colors you need to pop the bubbles keeping any “tails” aloft.
Save Your Bubbles
You can swap between your active and reserve bubbles by clicking on the launcher. After firing one of them, a new bubble comes in to replace it and you can keep swapping this way ad infinitum if you want to keep that bubble in reserve. This way, you’re not wasting bubbles on useless shots that would have been better served by simply swapping it out for another color.
If you pay attention to the bubble queue, you can plan for which targets to prioritize with your active and reserve bubbles This is especially useful when trying to pick between two or more groups of equally tantalizing targets. You’d pick the one which opens up the field more for your succeeding shots. By prioritizing shots in this manner, you can avoid wasted shots.
Make Every Shot Count
Even if you don’t have a particularly game-changing target, maybe you can break even a single bubble to make a spider pop out. While these don’t do anything to help you clear a stage, they do give you bonus points–and who doesn’t want a higher score? As long as you can still finish the stage, popping bubbles for spiders is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
Even though we’re trying to spend as little as possible in Bubble Witch 2 Saga, that doesn’t mean we should go crazy with the few free golds the game gives us. You probably still have the chunk of gold the game gave you when you started. If so, don’t be tempted into spending it on anything other than unlocking more stages when you’re stuck. Buying anything else like extra bubbles isn’t guaranteed to help you progress, as they’re random.
Likewise, exercise restraints with the free powerups the game gives you upon unlocking them. You’ll be encouraged to use them on the stage where you’re given them, but try to hold out. You’ll never get more free powerups, so save them for exceedingly difficult and frustrating situations when you’re sure of the win upon their consumption.
These beginner tips should be enough to help get you started on your path to Bubble Witch 2 Saga greatness. Just remember that roadblocks are part of the process, and every challenge is a learning opportunity. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so take those shots and practice, practice, practice!
