How to fly your car in Extreme Car Driving Simulator
Extreme Car Driving Simulator is one of those old games you look back on with wonderment and reminisce about just how much fun and enjoyment one could get out of something so simple. Sure, it wasn’t the best looking game, and neither was it particularly deep. But thanks to its free-roaming sandbox nature, Extreme Car Driving Simulator made you feel like you could truly do and go anywhere within its virtual city limits.
Part of its lasting charm though has to be thanks to its “advanced real physics engine,” which ended up feeling hilariously broken much of the time. While it certainly was a far cry from its “simulation” claims, the game’s physics engine did at least make driving and drifting feel fun and exciting. It also was the reason why so many odd, awesome, and downright helpful glitches could be reliably reproduced and exploited to squeeze that much more enjoyment out of Extreme Car Driving Simulator.
Let’s take a look at one of the funniest examples of glitching the game, which still exists to this day:
It’s Everyone’s Favorite Party Trick: The Flying Car!
Doubtless, this is one of those glitches that everybody finds out on their own completely by accident, probably because it’s so easy to do. Do you know how the reset button allows you to recover from a lopsided position by actually teleporting your car right-side-up a few feet in the air? Well, turns out there’s no cooldown on this feature.
That means you can repeatedly tap the reset button and be lifted higher and higher into the sky. Combine this with the fact that the game lets you keep your forward momentum when hitting the reset button and you have yourself a wingless airplane.
The flying car glitch is the catalyst for a handful of other glitches, including the relatively useless Paintshop glitch. By flying over the driveway as you enter a PaintShop, you can bypass the normal popup menu that comes into play upon ingress. This allows you to drive around inside the PaintShop. The only way out after glitching in is by flying literally through the roof.
Why fly when you can teleport, though? It takes a bit of practice, but if you use the flying car glitch while driving along inside the tunnel in the middle of the city, you’ll clip right through the ceiling and go onto a normally inaccessible rooftop. From there, drive along until the rooftops until you come across an area of the building cluster where the sides simply don’t exist and drop into a blue abyss.
Dropping into the left side will teleport you back to town. Dropping down the right side brings you to the airport. Handy little time-saver!
The flying car bug in Extreme Car Driving Simulator is the gateway to tons of other fun, exploration-focused glitches. You can soar carefree through the air, go rooftop hopping, or even fly high enough into the skybox such that collectibles are revealed to you as the building models in the map disappear. It makes finding and grabbing these collectibles a trivial challenge at best.
No matter how you use the bug, you’re bound to enjoy it even for just a little while. Hopefully, it’s considered so well-loved by the community that the devs never patch it out!
